A local non-profit designed to empower women will host a women’s conference in Cookeville this Saturday.
Healing Broken Vessels Executive Director Diantha McLeod said the conference theme is titled “The Battle Is Not Yours,” and focuses on the challenges women face. McLeod said many women do not feel they are worthy or accepted for who they are. McLeod said she hopes the conference can encourage women and let them know that they are not alone.
“I want women to know you are beautiful, no matter who you are or where you’ve come from, but your past is your past, and this is now, and you have a bright future,” McLeod said. “So that’s one of the reasons why I believe now is the time.”
McLeod said Healing Broken Vessels is based out of Lebanon, but she resides in Cookeville. McLeod said she also hopes the conference can be a start of a new opportunity in the Upper Cumberland.
“I’m just trying to bring the skills, the opportunities, the resources to Cookeville, to Putnam County, White County, and surrounding counties, just so women will have an opportunity to experience acceptance and not rejection and allow them to feel good about who they are,” McLeod said.
McLeod said single mothers face challenges like single parenting while working a full-time job. McLeod said coming home from work and being a single parent can be overwhelming at times.
“I had been on a job all day listening and problem solving, and then coming home and my role didn’t stop,” McLeod said. “I had to put on my mother hat and get to work.”
McLeod said she encourages all women to attend the conference. The conference will be located at 165 E Broad Street and will run from 9am-12pm. (Breakfast will begin at 8:15, sponsored by Bodega Bean Coffee Company – https://www.bodegabeanco.com)
